It can happen to anyone. One minute your business is thriving and the next, you’ve been hacked. The risk of losing everything you’ve worked so hard for is scary, and actually getting hacked can is frustrating beyond all measure, but the good news is that here are ways to prevent your business (and its various systems) from falling prey to such susceptible creeping:
1) Use an Antivirus:
Using a strong firewall, and keeping it up to date, is your first defense against a technological invasion. Make sure to install a high rated software and then keep an eye on it to make sure it stays updated so you and your systems can stay protected.
2) Be Cautious:
You know that email you aren’t totally sure about? DON’T CLICK ON IT. I know what you’re thinking, it could be harmless… But then what if it’s not? This can be hard because as a business owner, you probably get emails from unknown clients all the time, but if one seems extra suspicious, maybe think twice before opening it…and even better, run the antivirus first!
3) Block Those Pop-Ups:
This one seems like a no-brainer, and you probably already know this, but block those pop-ups. Most credible businesses don’t use pop-ups as a form of advertising. Stay safe and don’t click on those suckers…no matter how tempting the deal might be!
4) Don’t Be Afraid to Disconnect:
Shut it down! Shut it down! If you do receive a ransomware note, don’t be afraid to shut it ALL down. Your systems, I mean. Doing this can disrupt data being transmitted and it will do your system no harm to log off as fast as possible. As a side note, make sure you are regularly backing up your data, because if you do reach a point where a shutdown is necessary, you’ll still be able to clear away the malware and restore your computer to its previous clean state.
