That time of year has finally arrived. The air begins to crisp, the leaves change colors and the allergies become, well, more than brutal. Our incredible, professional voice over talent keep their voices in tip-top shape, and we’ve got a few great tips on how you too can protect your voice and keep your professional voice over game strong during the change of season:
- An Apple a Day
It’s pretty common knowledge that hot tea with lemon slices can be key to keeping a well-conditioned voice, but did you know that apple slices have a similar effect? In fact, eating raw apples slices will not only help smooth out your voice, it will keep you hydrated for long after consumption. Pack a couple next time you head to the studio if you’re feeling like your voice is tired and needs an extra pick-me-up!
2.Beat Allergies Before They Beat You
The real trick to beating allergies (and to keeping your narration voice strong) is to head them off at the pass; because as soon as an allergic reaction occurs, your vocal cords will become irritated and begin to swell. Often antihistamines will dry out these same vocal cords, so it’s important to use your diet to help your immune system fight these reactions. One easy way to do this is to add more local honey or bee pollen to your diet. This will help your body acclimate to the changing season and ease into the colder months with care.
3. Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!
It’s been said a million times, but it bears repeating: DRINK WATER. So much water…. And we mean like, so much! By keeping your body hydrated, not only are you also keeping your voice hydrated, but you’re keeping your immune system well fed with what it needs to get through the season change. If you’ve got an especially big recording coming up, be sure to avoid dehydrating substances like alcohol or sugary drinks like soda and instead go for a big glass of water or a nice herbal tea.
